Rural landholders are invited to attend the Booubyjan Priority Species Workshop, a free community event designed to provide practical advice on identifying and managing invasive weeds and pest animals that threaten agricultural productivity and environmental health.

Hosted by Gympie Regional Council, the workshop will be held on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, at the Booubyjan Community Hall, bringing together local landholders to learn effective management techniques and explore the support available for managing priority species on their properties.

Participants will gain practical knowledge on identifying and controlling a range of invasive weed species, including honey locust, rubber vine, giant rat's tail grass and parthenium. The workshop will also cover the management of common pest animals such as wild dogs, foxes, feral pigs, feral deer and rabbits, providing information on how Council can assist landholders with coordinated management programs.

A highlight of the event will be a hands-on feral pig trapping demonstration, giving attendees the opportunity to see practical control techniques in action and discuss effective pest management strategies with experienced officers.

That's the focus of Smart Plant Health – Driving True Profits, a practical on-farm learning day designed for farmers, agronomists and agricultural professionals.

Hosted by BEAR Biologics, the event will bring together leading agronomy, spray application and industry experts to explore the complete decision-making process for improving plant health—from monitoring and testing through to informed action, measurable results and continuous improvement.

Leading the technical sessions is internationally experienced agronomist Jason Hobson from TerraVita Agronomy. Drawing on extensive experience in plant nutrition and crop health, Jason will guide participants through the principles of soil and sap testing, seasonal crop development and interpreting plant health data. The session will cover how to determine what crops actually need, recognise critical plant-health windows throughout the season and make informed decisions on foliar nutrition, formulation compatibility and nutrient uptake.

The day will also feature Jeremy Jones from Darling Downs Spray Tech, who will demonstrate how effective spray application is critical to achieving the best return on investment. Joe will share practical approaches to identifying and controlling GRT, with a particular focus on combining management strategies to achieve effective, long-term results.

The sessions will cover:

• identifying Giant Rat’s Tail Grass and preventing its spread

• practical control options for GRT

• managing pastures to reduce GRT pressure and maintain productivity

• identifying and managing emerging weed threats

• recognising Tropical Soda Apple, Parthenium Weed, Prickly Acacia and African Boxthorn.

By giving landholders access to practical knowledge, current research and locally relevant management strategies, the sessions aim to strengthen the region’s capacity to respond to invasive weeds before they become more difficult and costly to manage.

​​With environmental regulations continuing to evolve, understanding what the changes mean for day-to-day farming and grazing operations has never been more important. AgForce Queensland is hosting a practical information session at Durong to help producers navigate the latest reforms to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act and better understand their obligations under the current regulatory framework.

The EPBC Reform Roadshow will be held on Monday, 14 September, bringing together industry representatives, government regulators and technical experts to provide practical guidance on how the reforms may affect on-farm decision-making and land management.

Leading the discussion will be Josie Fettersson, AgForce Queensland's Head of Industry Development, who will unpack the latest EPBC reforms and explain what they mean for farming and grazing businesses. The session will cover key topics including changes introduced under the reforms, the 15-year rule and regrowth management, continuing use exemptions, Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES), self-assessment and referral processes, compliance requirements and the potential impacts on routine farming operations.

Representatives from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) – EPBC Regulatory Support Branch will also be available to answer questions directly and provide practical advice on EPBC requirements, compliance obligations and referral processes.

The program also includes a presentation from Mark Pawsey, CEO of AgCarE, introducing NatureLedger—a practical tool designed to help producers better understand the environmental values of their properties, support compliance requirements and make more informed land management decisions.

Designed as a practical roadshow rather than a policy briefing, the event aims to give producers the opportunity to ask questions, hear directly from industry experts and regulators, and access information that supports confident, informed decision-making on their own properties.

Morning tea and lunch are included, with plenty of time for networking with fellow producers, industry representatives, AgForce staff and corporate partners.
