The South Burnett Regional Council’s Local Disaster Recovery Group will hold a Recovery Hub with multiple agencies attending, to provide support to our community.

Jake Ryan is part of a family farming business, Three Ryans Farm at Manjimup WA, where they grow brassica vegetables, run merino ewes, cattle and grow pasture seeds. Jake makes liquid fertilisers on farm for foliar applications on vegetable crops and pastures and uses soil testing, brix testing and plant sap testing to guide decisions regarding these applications.
Monitoring has been used to guide the transition to incorporating mixed species cover crops, holistic grazing, and making their own foliar fertilisers.

Soil Monitoring Webinar - Getting Started with soil monitoring for on farm benefits
Gillian Sanbrook has been monitoring soil and landscape health at Bibbaringa since she purchased the 927ha cattle farming property in 2007. Gillian will discuss how she got started monitoring, the benefits she has experienced from monitoring and the changes she has seen in her farm landscape as a result.
David Hardwick is an agroecologist with extensive experience in supporting farmers to undertake soil monitoring.

Rural Round Up
Rural Round Up returns to Kewpie Stockfeeds on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, bringing together producers, agricultural businesses, suppliers and community organisations for a free day of practical information, networking and entertainment.
Visitors can explore a wide range of agricultural exhibitors, watch live demonstrations, hear from industry experts and discover products and services to support their farming enterprise, livestock or rural lifestyle. The event is a great opportunity to connect with local businesses, ask questions and gain practical insights into livestock health, nutrition and farm productivity.
Along with food vendors and live entertainment, attendees who RSVP can go into the draw to win a prize package valued at more than $500, with a $250 lucky door prize drawn at midday (winner must be present).
Alternative Crop and Cover options, and Barley Disease Field Walk
Hosted by the Farm Business Resilience Program and research partners, this free field walk will showcase a range of alternative cropping options, including canola, field peas, lentils, lupins and linseed, alongside cover crop demonstrations featuring rye corn and multi-species mixes.
Participants will also hear from Dr Lisle Snyman on practical strategies for managing net form net blotch in barley.

EPBC Reform Roadshow
With environmental regulations continuing to evolve, understanding what the changes mean for day-to-day farming and grazing operations has never been more important. AgForce Queensland is hosting a practical information session at Durong to help producers navigate the latest reforms to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act and better understand their obligations under the current regulatory framework.
The EPBC Reform Roadshow will be held on Monday, 14 September, bringing together industry representatives, government regulators and technical experts to provide practical guidance on how the reforms may affect on-farm decision-making and land management.
Leading the discussion will be Josie Fettersson, AgForce Queensland's Head of Industry Development, who will unpack the latest EPBC reforms and explain what they mean for farming and grazing businesses. The session will cover key topics including changes introduced under the reforms, the 15-year rule and regrowth management, continuing use exemptions, Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES), self-assessment and referral processes, compliance requirements and the potential impacts on routine farming operations.
Representatives from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) – EPBC Regulatory Support Branch will also be available to answer questions directly and provide practical advice on EPBC requirements, compliance obligations and referral processes.
The program also includes a presentation from Mark Pawsey, CEO of AgCarE, introducing NatureLedger—a practical tool designed to help producers better understand the environmental values of their properties, support compliance requirements and make more informed land management decisions.
Designed as a practical roadshow rather than a policy briefing, the event aims to give producers the opportunity to ask questions, hear directly from industry experts and regulators, and access information that supports confident, informed decision-making on their own properties.

Hosted by the Burnett Catchment Care Association (BCCA) in partnership with South Burnett Regional Council and local producers, the sessions will bring together research, local knowledge and practical management approaches to help landholders protect productive pastures and reduce the spread of invasive weeds.
Practical knowledge for long-term weed management
Guest speaker Joe Vitelli, a former Department of Primary Industries scientist, brings more than 40 years of experience in invasive plant research and management, including extensive work with Giant Rat’s Tail Grass.
Joe will share practical approaches to identifying and controlling GRT, with a particular focus on combining management strategies to achieve effective, long-term results.
The sessions will cover:
identifying Giant Rat’s Tail Grass and preventing its spread
practical control options for GRT
managing pastures to reduce GRT pressure and maintain productivity
identifying and managing emerging weed threats

Understanding what your crop needs is only the first step - applying the right management practices at the right time is what drives productivity and profitability. That's the focus of Smart Plant Health – Driving True Profits, a practical on-farm learning day designed for farmers, agronomists and agricultural professionals.
Hosted by BEAR Biologics, the event will bring together leading agronomy, spray application and industry experts to explore the complete decision-making process for improving plant health—from monitoring and testing through to informed action, measurable results and continuous improvement.
Leading the technical sessions is internationally experienced agronomist Jason Hobson from TerraVita Agronomy. Drawing on extensive experience in plant nutrition and crop health, Jason will guide participants through the principles of soil and sap testing, seasonal crop development and interpreting plant health data. The session will cover how to determine what crops actually need, recognise critical plant-health windows throughout the season and make informed decisions on foliar nutrition, formulation compatibility and nutrient uptake.

Participants will tour the Leather family property and see how soils, vegetation, waterways and groundcover can be managed as valuable natural capital assets. The day will also explore how measurable environmental improvements can support better farm decisions and create future opportunities in carbon, biodiversity and natural capital markets.

Booubyjan Priority Species Workshop
Rural landholders are invited to attend the Booubyjan Priority Species Workshop, a free community event designed to provide practical advice on identifying and managing invasive weeds and pest animals that threaten agricultural productivity and environmental health.
Hosted by Gympie Regional Council, the workshop will be held on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, at the Booubyjan Community Hall, bringing together local landholders to learn effective management techniques and explore the support available for managing priority species on their properties.
Participants will gain practical knowledge on identifying and controlling a range of invasive weed species, including honey locust, rubber vine, giant rat's tail grass and parthenium. The workshop will also cover the management of common pest animals such as wild dogs, foxes, feral pigs, feral deer and rabbits, providing information on how Council can assist landholders with coordinated management programs.
A highlight of the event will be a hands-on feral pig trapping demonstration, giving attendees the opportunity to see practical control techniques in action and discuss effective pest management strategies with experienced officers.
