​Hosted by the Burnett Catchment Care Association (BCCA) in partnership with South Burnett Regional Council and local producers, the sessions will bring together research, local knowledge and practical management approaches to help landholders protect productive pastures and reduce the spread of invasive weeds.

Practical knowledge for long-term weed management

Guest speaker Joe Vitelli, a former Department of Primary Industries scientist, brings more than 40 years of experience in invasive plant research and management, including extensive work with Giant Rat’s Tail Grass.

Joe will share practical approaches to identifying and controlling GRT, with a particular focus on combining management strategies to achieve effective, long-term results.

The sessions will cover:

• identifying Giant Rat’s Tail Grass and preventing its spread

• practical control options for GRT

• managing pastures to reduce GRT pressure and maintain productivity

• identifying and managing emerging weed threats

• recognising Tropical Soda Apple, Parthenium Weed, Prickly Acacia and African Boxthorn.

By giving landholders access to practical knowledge, current research and locally relevant management strategies, the sessions aim to strengthen the region’s capacity to respond to invasive weeds before they become more difficult and costly to manage.
