About the Burnett Mary Regional Group...

The Burnett Mary Regional Group for Natural Resource Management Inc (BMRG) is the peak coordinating body for natural resource management in the Burnett Mary region.
BMRG is tasked with oversight of such natural resource and environmental management issues as water quality, salinity, and sustainability - sustainable development of the Burnett Mary region's land, vegetation, weeds and pest management, coastal and marine management and water resources.

BMRG was formed under the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality and the Natural Heritage Trust programs. It is one of 14 Regional Bodies in Queensland and one of 56 nationally.
The BMRG represents the combined interests of the community, industry and government.  The group, in partnership with the community, industry and Local Government, has developed a natural resource management Plan for the Burnett Mary region - Country to Coast - a healthy sustainable future

The Burnett Mary Region covers approximately 56,000 square kilometres of land and includes another 40,000 square kilometres of marine area.  It has a diversity of landscapes and communities and covers five major river basins: Baffle, Burnett, Burrum, Kolan and Mary and a series of coastal rivers (Isis, Gregory, Elliott).

The region also contains major urban areas, including the cities of Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Gympie.  The Burnett Mary is home for close to 250,000 people and there are 5 Local Government Authorities that fall within the planning boundaries.

All of Fraser Island World Heritage Area and part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area occur within the Burnett Mary region as does the Great Sandy Strait, a Ramsar listed wetland of international significance.
