Lower Mary Flood Resilience

In response to the 2022 flooding in the lower Mary River, which damaged critical habitat for the culturally significant and endangered white-throated snapping turtle and Mary River turtle, this project seeks to enhance ecological resilience through integrated on-ground actions such as riverbank stabilisation, riparian revegetation, nest protection, weed control, and habitat restoration.
By engaging stakeholders, the project also aims to improve planning and flood management that respects the cultural and ecological value of the area, while reducing sediment runoff to the Great Barrier Reef and strengthening the overall environmental health of the lower Mary River.
The Lower Mary Flood Resilience project is funded by the Mindaroo Foundation.
