K’gari Galangoor Gira Ngulungbara Djaa (K’gari Good Fire Northern Country)

The K’gari Galangoor Gira Ngulungbara Djaa (K’gari Good Fire Northern Country) project, led by Burnett Mary Regional Group in partnership with the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation, extends cultural burning practices to new areas of K’gari, including Wallum heathland, and continues long-term ecological and cultural monitoring.

This First Nations-led initiative builds on the original Galangoor Gira project by enhancing the "Good Fire Handbook," providing employment and capacity-building for Butchulla fire practitioners, and incorporating community engagement and risk reduction.

The project aims to strengthen cultural resilience, protect local ecosystems and infrastructure, and foster collaboration through stakeholder involvement, education, and strategic communication.

The K’gari Galangoor Gira Ngulungbara Djaa (K’gari Good Fire Northern Country) project is funded by Natural Resource Management Australia (NRMA).
