Water Quality Improvement Plan
Together with many of the Country's Regional Bodies, BMRG is updating our Water Quality Improvement Plans.
Water is one of our most important natural assets. Adequate quality and quantity of fresh water is central to the integrity of the environment. It is essential to our agricultural enterprises, even to our ability to ensure we have sufficient drinking water to supply our needs.
The health of the coastal and inshore marine areas of the Burnett Mary region is influenced by the quality and quantity of runoff from the region's five river basins. Increased loads of nutrients, sediments and pesticides from adjacent catchments have led to chronic changes in environmental conditions for Great Barrier Reef species and marine ecosystems.
This planning process was completed in 2015 - a copy of the plan, along with supporting information, can be downloaded here.
