Bunya Peoples Aboriginal Corporation

The Bunya Peoples’ Aboriginal Corporation (BPAC) is an innovative Murri corporation working together with all people to reconnect culture and country for the Bunya Mountain landscape.

BPAC is a newly incorporated Aboriginal organisation that follows on from the legacy of the Bunya Mountains Elders Council (BMEC). BMEC was established to provide Aboriginal leadership and governance for caring for country business throughout the Bunya Mountains landscape.

Under the guidance of the Bunya Mountains Elders Council the ‘Bonye Bu'ru: Bunya Mountains Aboriginal Aspirations and Caring for Country Plan’ was developed through strong involvement of Traditional Owners.

During the development of the plan, Traditional Owners consistently raised two key priorities

  • having our own Murri Rangers looking after country
  • independence to be able to run and manage our business through an incorporated entity.

The Bunya Mountains Elders Council worked closely with BMRG and many other stakeholders to make the Murri Rangers dream a reality, with first Rangers on the mountain in 2009.

BMRG provides support as the host organisation. This role includes responsibility for sourcing grant funding, entering into contractual agreements with funding bodies, ensuring use of corporate governance policy and procedures including human resource management and the implementation and acquittal of funding agreements.
