Great Sandy Strait

The Great Sandy Strait lies between the mainland coast and the Fraser Island World Heritage Area. Most of the Strait is a Ramsar listed wetland of international significance and is part of the Cooloola sand mass. In addition to the main regional centre of Hervey Bay, there are a number of small coastal communities bordering the Strait, including Tin Can Bay, Tinnanbar, Poona,Tuan, Boonooroo and Maaroom.
