Reef Trust Phase III Extension Officers On-the-Ground

Mar 23, 2017

This March and April, keep an eye out for Extension Officers from Burnett Catchment Care Association and the Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee doing the rounds with Graziers, promoting the Federal Government’s Reef Trust Phase III: Reef Alliance - Growing a Great Barrier Reef project. The Extension Officers will be out engaging with Graziers to deliver personalised training and support for the betterment of grazing land management and water quality in the Burnett (BCCA) and Mary (MRCCC) catchments. Focusing on groundcover issues and streambank erosion, BCCA and MRCCC Extension Officers are looking for Graziers in their target areas who are concerned about these issues on their land. The Reef Trust Phase III program aims to improve grazing land management through education and awareness, and targeted on-ground support to the mutual benefit of Graziers and the Great Barrier Reef.

If you know of graziers in the Burnett or Mary catchments looking to improve the condition of their land and their own skillsets, please direct Burnett catchment Graziers to further information on the BCCA website betterburnett.com, and Mary catchment Graziers to the MRCCC website mrccc.org.au. General information and direction can also be sourced through the Burnett Mary Regional Group website bmrg.org.au.

The Reef Trust Phase III: Reef Alliance ‘Growing a Great Barrier Reef’ project is a partnership between agricultural industry, regional NRM bodies and facilitated by the Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF), with a common goal of securing the future health of the Great Barrier Reef. The Reef Alliance Program is funded by the Australian Government Reef Trust.
