World Environment Day 1st June
2008 World Environment Day Celebration is on at the PCYC on Sunday June 1 starting at 9am. This year's theme is CO2 - Kick The Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy. Entry to this carbon neutral event is free, and so are the workshops, demos, live music, speakers and movies. Local food, drink and other products will be available for purchase. When:  water monitoring is Wednesday, 4th June, 9:30 am – 11:30 am – Water Quality Monitoring Workshop (morning tea available)
Where:  Wide Bay Water, Ellengowan Street, Hervey Bay.
 
When:  Canoe trip is Thursday, 5th June, 9:30 am – 3 pm – Canoe Trip along the Burrum River (morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be available)
Where:  Boat Ramp, Power Hose Road off the Old Bruce Highway, Howard.

Free Koala Survey and Identification Training workshop from the 4th to the 7th June
The training is from 9.00am to 12.00noon on the Wednesday and surveying from 9.00 to 2.00pm from Thursday the Saturday. Will be held at eh Hervey Bay botanical gardens depot, Elizabeth street, Urangan. Some meals provided. RSVP by Friday 30th May. Upcoming workshops on Mangroves and Tidal Wetlands of Burnett Mary Region
Two workshops, one at Bundaberg and the other at Hervey Bay/Burrum, will be held on the weekend of 14-15th of June
.
This will be your chance to ask questions and hear the latest from Jock Mackenzie and Dr Norm Duke from the University of Queensland. They have been investigating local mangroves and tidal wetlands over the last few years. They want to also discuss plans for local community mangrove monitoring projects – so your comments, advice and suggestions are most welcome.
