Dewey takes the region by storm!

In an effort to promote a greater understanding in the region about the importance of Stormwater management, the Burnett Mary Regional Groups’ mascot, Dewey the Dugong, visited 6 regional towns last month to generate awareness of storm water pollution.

Dewey hosted morning and afternoon teas at Biggenden, Monto, Mundubbera, Kingaroy, Gympie and Maryborough to educate the broader community about the issue of storm water and other environmental management concerns.

The communities took the opportunity of meeting Dewey and other staff from the Burnett Mary Regional Group and lot of interest was shown, not only in the issue of storm water but of other issues facing the various communities.

Joel Bolzenius, project coordinator from the Burnett Mary Regional Group said that “Region wide Dewey was very well received, even in the streets and shopping malls it seemed that the storm water message made a real impact”
