This beautiful bird is a Rose Crowned Fruit Dove, sometimes called a Painted Pigeon.  A bird of the rainforests, it is secretive and seldom seen, but often heard because of its low, booming call.  It is found throughout the Burnett Mary Region, but only in suitable habitat, where it feeds exclusively on fruit such as native figs.  It has suffered from clearing of habitat throughout its range.  This photogragh was taken in coastal rainforest near Bundaberg which is about to be developed for housing.
