Action Programs Overview
Country to Coast is a community based plan which outlines management strategies
for Natural Resources in the Burnett Mary region.
Put simply, a Natural Resource Management Plan is something like a business plan
for the environment.
The Plan looks at the existing use and management of the region's natural resources
from the perspective of a future investor in the business.
- What are the existing assets and their values?
- How are they currently managed?
- Can this be improved?
- What are the benefits, or dividends, of involvement?
- What is the return for investment?
The plan assesses the current condition of our region's natural resources, the
threats to them and the strategies we, as a community, need to implement to reap
the best sustained benefit for our investment.
Five natural resource assets that must be restored, protected or enhanced to
sustain the quality of life in the Burnett Mary region were identified for Country
to Coast - a healthy sustainable future.
These assets are biodiversity, water, coastal and marine, land, and lifestyle
and people.
Although these assets have been examined separately, they are in practice inter-connected
and any decline in one asset will impact adversely on the others. Equally, those
targets and actions identified to counter the threats to each asset will have
flow-on benefits to the other assets.
