The WBB
NRM Plan is the first of a suite of six products — most of which will be
documents with associated data and mapping — that together
will form the sustainability framework for natural
resource management in our region. They stem directly from desired regional
outcomes specified by the Wide Bay Burnett Regional
Plan 2010-2031. The Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan is a statutory
document under the Queensland Sustainability Act.
The WBB
NRM Plan provides a broad brush definition of where the region is
heading over the next 20 years with regard to natural resource management. It
establishes a set of measureable targets for the condition
and extent of
environmental and natural resources in the Wide Bay Burnett (covering the
North Burnett, South Burnett, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast and Gympie Regional
Council and the Cherbourg Aboriginal Council areas). It is a
non-traditional plan in that it does not include an extensive list of
management actions or implementation strategies. It is a document which coordinates the delivery of existing and
future plans, strategies and actions for the management and use of natural
resources in the Wide
Bay Burnett region.
Who is developing the WBB NRM Plan?
It’s preparation is being directed by
the Wide Bay Burnett Environment and Natural Resource Working Group (ENRWG) which
has membership from: Burnett Mary Traditional Owners Working Group(TOWG), Fraser
Coast Regional Council, Gympie Regional Council, South Burnett Regional Council,
North Burnett Regional Council, Bundaberg Regional Council, Wide Bay Conservation
Council(WBCC), Agforce, Industry, Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee(MRCCC),
Burnett Catchment Care Association(BCCA), Burnett Mary Regional Group(BMRG), Department
of Environment and Resource Management(DERM), Department of Employment, Economic
Development and Innovation(DEEDI), Department of Communities(DoC) and the Department
