Better Catchments and Healthy Habitats Showcase 2009
On the 7th and 8th of October 2009, BMRG put together the ultimate training package
for landholders and natural resource managers for FREE!
Some special guests in attendance included a Hairy Nosed Wombat, Spotted Quoll,
and a Glossy Black Cockatoo just to name a few!
This event was made possible by funding received from the Australian and Queensland
Governments through the Caring for our Country Program.

A war has been waged against the feral animals that have been causing destruction
to the agricultural and environmental assets of the South Burnett. This presentation
will provide an update from the front line and inform you on how progress has
been made.

Turtles, a river, a people - a symbiosis

An eight year story of a rural communities response to a threatened river turtle.
The story winds it way from conservation, establishment of home-based businesses,

Reef Rescue

Farm risk assessments are highlighting the greatest areas of risk (both agronomic
and environmental) on farms and provide growers with the information and direction
on what needs to be managed. Through Reef Rescue funds are provide to encourage
or reward landholders who are doing something about these areas of risk.

Destroying the Alien Invaders

An overview of Declared Weeds including Terrestrial and aquatic species and an
introduction to the Weeds of National Significance. This will cover basic identification
techniques, prioritising treatment on your property, and a guide to common control
methods.
The Secrets to Soil Health
Robert Doyle, Growcom
A guide to the essentials of soil productivity. This will include a practical
demonstration of how to measure the health of your patch of dirt and how to adjust
the soil to suit your specific needs.

Wildlife: Up Close & Personal!
Martin Fingerland, Geckoes Wildlife
An opportunity to see, and in some cases hear and/or touch a range of local and
regional wildlife at close quarters. There will be a chance to ask questions and
contribute to local knowledge on the species present and discover how to attract
and maintain wildlife on your property. A highlight will be the Spotted-tailed
Quoll, a regionally endangered and topical marsupial predator. Other special guests
include a Hairy Nosed Wombat, Dragons, and a Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, just to
name a few.

Tracks and Scats

This workshop will give participants the basics on how to go about identifying
the presence of particular forms of wildlife on their property based on the discovery
of tracks, scats, skulls, nests or other signs and evidence.
