The Dairy industry in the Burnett Mary has a long history of adaptation and innovation. This culture of innovation brings  productivity and environmental gains to this important industry The Queensland Dairy Organisation leads representation of the Dairy Industry in the Burnett Mary Reef Partnership with support from the BMRG. With the support of Reef Rescue investment, there are significant opportunities to support Dairy producers to adopt Land Management practices that improve Reef Water Quality and their enterprises. 

Sustainable Dairy

The Burnett Mary Reef Partnership with support from the Australian Government's Reef Rescue program, will assist Dairy Farmers to identify and implement activities that will improve Reef Water Quality and their enterprises. Using an extension program called Dairying Better N Better for Tomorrow, dairy specialists will assist farmers prioritise activities that will address the following aspects of their farm operations;

• water quality management and water use efficiency,
  
• effluent management and re-use,
  
• soil management (including erosion control, soil structure and nutrient management),
  
• chemical and farm waste management,
  
• riparian management

Support for Dairy Farmers

If you are a Dairy Producer in the Burnett Mary Region, you may be eligible for financial assistance to carry out a variety of property improvements. Your eligibility will depend on your property being in the priority area (see priority map) and on the type of activities you wish to undertake.
