Environmental funding launched in Kingaroy
Funding under the Federal Government’s new “Caring for our Country” program was
explained at a launch earlier this month in Kingaroy.
The launch included information about eligibility requirements, and was one of
a series of sessions throughout the Burnett Mary region. Chief Executive Officer
of the Burnett Mary Regional Group, David Brown, said the launches attracted interest
from landholders, Councils, community and industry groups, and politicians.
“In Kingaroy, two of our local Members of Parliament attended and were very interested
in our new programs and the priorities for environmental projects in the coming
year,” he said.
“Our Healthy Habitats initiative will protect and enhance biodiversity, through
on ground investment in private and public lands, education, awareness and species
monitoring.”
“The Better Catchments program is all about sustainability of farms, where we
will tackle salinity, pest plants and animals, reducing erosion and promoting
pasture species.”
Mr Brown said the Group also had two other funding programs which attracted a
lot of interest at the launch.
“We are quite excited about the Supergraze project, which aims to help graziers
adopt more sustainable practices on their properties, and are delivering on the
Reef Rescue project, which is one of the Federal Government’s election promises
to help improve water quality flowing into the Barrier Reef,” he said.
State Member for Nanango, Dorothy Pratt, spoke at the launch and encouraged landowners
to apply for funding. “The South Burnett area needs as much help as possible
to help improve our natural resources,” she said.
“It is very important to tackle environmental problems head on, before they get
any worse, and the funds will also provide an economic boost for the area.”
A similar launch and information session will be held in Gympie on Thursday the
11th December at 10.30am in the Fossickers room in the Civic Centre, 242 Mary
Street Gympie.
Attending the Kingaroy funding launch was Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott MP,
David Brown (BMRG), Member for Nanango Dorothy Pratt MP, Cr Paul Lobegier and
Mal Collinge (BMRG)
